Charlotte Jones
Born: 1952, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Resides: Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada

My current work investigates attitudes towards and assumptions about “nature”. While I hope that this investigation might have a more universal application, I feel it is important that in order for it to have any integrity or strength, the work must have its roots in personal, local experience; therefore, the images are derived from the flora and fauna of the Western coast of Newfoundland.
I use traditional Japanese woodblock because I relate both to its potential for intense colour and to the warmth of the craft involved in producing these prints. Another consideration is the limitations of the technique imposes on the size of the works: the prints are small to underline the intimacy of the personal and to draw in the viewer.
