Angela Baker ~ The South Coast Paintings
5/23/2008-6/14/2008
"It began with a hiking trip to Francois in 2000", Angela Baker said about the South Coast paintings.

Annual trips aboard the Marine Voyager to Francois enabled Angela to capture the entire coastline between Grey River and Francois on videotape which bore witness to her desire to paint the whole magnificent coast.

Initially drawn by its beauty Angela discovered a rich history of abandoned communities where men and women built havens in isolated fjords and bays.

This series of paintings addresses resettlement and the contentiousness of the experience for the thousands of residents who resided in the many communities along the South Coast of Newfoundland.
