Heather Millar ~ Forgotten
7/16/2008-8/2/2008
As the pace of society speeds along faster and faster so does the consumer demand for goods produced quickly and inexpensively. The deterioration of quality and craftsmanship fuels my fire for seeking out antique toys. Many of these toys have been handcrafted or have handcrafted elements in them, a rarity in the 21st century.
These toys have been painted, stiched and assembled by hand in addition to being forms of entertainment. In our disposable society the flaws, cracks , split stiches and decapitations will render them disposable. The value increases for me when I find a really well worn toy. It has a history.
My desire is simply to enjoy these toys as snippets of history and to create a portrait to be seen as a moment in time.
